It seems like every woman has a go to hairstyle, one that has been mastered to literally take 15 minutes in the morning to construct. It could be something simple as a basic blowout or something a bit more creative like a fun pony-tail or braid!
Recently, my go to hairstyle has been the fishtail braid. It’s super easy, work appropriate and takes no time at all. Below you can find the step by step instructions on how you can do it yourself!
Separate hair into two equal sections at the back of the head. Fishtail braiding requires only two sections (not three, like a classic or French braid).
Start the fishtail braid by holding the right section with your right hand. Then, using your left hand, pick up a small chunk (a half-inch) of hair from the outside of the left section and cross it over to the inside of the right section.
(Hint: Try picking the hair up from the area near the base of your ear. It’s important to pull sections from underneath when you cross over to get that scaly look.)
Repeat on the other side: Hold the left section in your left hand. Use your right hand to pick up a half-inch of hair from the outer right section and cross it over to the inside of the left section.
Continue adding small sections and crossing them over until you reach the ends of your hair, and secure with an elastic hair tie. Pull on the braid a bit to loosen it.
Don’t be discouraged if you don’t get this perfectly the first time but just remember to keep practicing! Practice always makes perfect! Oh, and if you have layers that’s fine! Layers actually help make the braid look much cuter! If you don’t have layers, don’t worry, just slightly pull hair out in random parts, not completely though. This makes for a slightly messier look that still works for everyday!
